Gloria, The One And Only

Picture
.Where to start? Gloria was brought to us by a kind man who had found her at his work site.  She could not stand or walk. She was seen by several doctors, who agreed that she had suffered a head injury.  She was three months old, and not afraid of humans, which means that she had been in a home. It's sad to think, but someone must have abandoned her; she could not have gotten to that site on her own.  She would just fall over whenever she tried to move. She had a sunny disposition, and over time we learned what an extraordinary cat she was indeed!  Gloria received regular acupuncture and chiropractic treatments, and improved greatly over the coming years! We had two intuitive animal communicators work with her as well, to let us know how she was feeling emotionally, and if she was in any pain.  It was a joy to see her gain strength and balance.  Within a year, Gloria could get around pretty well. And if she wanted to, if mind overcame matter, she could run! One time she got startled, and amazed me by running about twelve feet up our back yard hill!! That only happened when she didn't think, or over-think her movements. Usually the planning paid off for her, however...we could see the wheels turning as she made each step.
It was agonizing to see her fall, and fall, and fall...and fall.  Sometimes she hit hard, sometimes she hit her head We Glo-proofed the house and yard as best we could.

Gloria became a constant lesson to us on living in the moment, in persevering, in enduring with grace.  I don't think a human could ever achieve her level of practical courage and acceptance. We always piss and moan.  She loved her life. She was robust, a great eater, accepting of her situation. She was confident and independent. She let us know when she needed to be supported at the water dish or the litter box. No accidents! For her morning and evening meals, we would sit on the couch. I'd hold her steady while she ate. She took her time. Those times were  the lovliest parts of my days.

She had been with us for almost four years when she started to lose her appetite...and lose weight. The doctor found that she was in severe kidney failure. We were blindsided...she had never had dry food...nor gone out of the yard. She might have eaten a poison bug, or...I was told that it could happen in these circumstances...well, I guess so. Unlike Gloria, we were having a very time accepting this. It's hard to write this now. She had suffered so much, (tho she'd disagree I bet) hitting her head time after time when she fell...hard to witness. But her overall health was a blessing...
Gloria lived for thirteen days after her diagnosis. We treated her with fluids and homeopathics. I gave her the Standard Process Renal Support, which had worked wonders with PePe years ago. She did so well, we were hopeful that she could recover. She did not.  The last few days she slept beside me in bed, and on morning of the 21st she was gone. Bless you, Gloria. You leave  us rattling around here in a daze. You were one of the greatest beings I've had the privilege to know. Thank you for your time with us.
