Young, Sweet, Jerome!

This sweet lad showed up at one of my colonies! He was extremely friendly, and after looking for his people (no collar, no chip, etc.,) I brought  him home with me. He had been clinging to my feet and jumping into the car...What a love! He had an ear tip, meaning that he'd been neutered and thought to be a stray.  But he was by no means a "feral"!!
He is beautiful, with a silver undercoat and, very rare, tortoise-shell coloring on parts of his body!
I took him in for an exam and got him chipped and tested for FeLV and FIV and heartworm (heartworm is very rare, but)!
He's negative for heartworm and FeLV (the risky one) and positive for FIV. that's an immunodeficiency virus, which makes him a bit more vulnerable, but not a huge risk, as it is ONLY transmitted through a DEEP bite from another cat. Here's some good info from a vet I know and have worked with:

Jerome is in every other way, in vibrant health, and should stay that way! The stigma around FIV-positive cats is slowly going away, thank goodness. As the article above says, he can live in a home with other cats...as long as they are friendly...
Please consider adopting this most lovely and deserving cat, our Jerome!
